The Morris Oak Dressing Table
Won this oak kidney shaped dresser in an auction, was chuffed as it's a beautiful piece and couldn't wait to upcycle it.
My aim was to up date it without taking its original features away - Using a bold colour to bring out the lines, fabrics to add interest and the original oak sides, oiled to show off its natural beauty I believe I have created a classic piece with a contemporary twist.
I used a mixture of two colours from the Farrow & Ball paint range to create this deep blue/grey colour. Once I had sanded, died and waxed the Oak sides, the grain in the wood really popped and love the way it shows off its natural curves!
I have used a William Morris fabric "Compton" and just love the contrast between it and the rest of the piece.
Every element of this piece compliments each other and that is why I decided to update the handles to cast iron oval ones, which bring the whole piece together and keep the classic but contemporary theme going. I really love this dresser and put a lot of love into giving it a new look! I think it will grace any bedroom beautifully.
