The Morris Walnut Dressing Table
I got this lovely dressing table off a friend who no longer had use for it - I instantly fell in love with this piece and wanted to take my time bringing out the lovely lines, such as the cabriole legs and classic shape. My aim was to up date it without taking those features away - Using a bold colour to bring out the lines, fabrics to add interest and the original walnut veneer, oiled to show off its natural beauty, I have created a classic piece with a contemporary twist.
I used a mixture of two colours from the Farrow & Ball paint range to create this deep blue/grey colour. Once I had sanded, oiled and waxed the walnut veneer drawers, the grain in the wood really popped and gave the draws depth and contrast against the grey.
I have used two William Morris fabrics - one "Marigold" for the side panels and the second "Snakeshead" to line the two top drawers.
As Well as keeping the original walnut veneer I have also kept the original metal drop handles, which bring the whole piece together and keep the classic but contemporary theme going. I really love this dresser and put a lot of love into giving it a new look! I think it will grace any bedroom beautifully.
