“Every piece begins as a surface — what you place upon it is where the story begins.”
The Canvas Collection takes a softer approach to contemporary furniture. Shapes feel worn-in, almost as if they’ve been formed over time rather than designed - a sculptural bench that moves like a slow wave, a bedside table that curves gently into itself, a cabinet that feels quietly architectural without ever being rigid.
There’s a calmness to it. Natural walnut and ash bring warmth, their grain left to speak for itself, lifted only by moments of mother of pearl that catch the light in a subtle, considered way. Nothing feels overworked. The forms do just enough.
Each piece is designed as a surface for marquetry, pattern and bespoke interpretation. Shown here with our Kitsune design, the detailing sits within the form rather than on top of it, becoming part of the furniture rather than applied decoration.
It’s a collection of sculptural furniture that feels settled, balanced and quietly expressive.
A Study in Form, Material
& the Space Between the Two.
The Canvas Collection is built on the idea that great furniture doesn’t need to shout. It begins with proportion, balance and softened architectural form, allowing the materials to carry much of the character.
The name “Canvas” reflects that thinking. Each piece is conceived as a foundation rather than a fixed expression — a surface that can remain restrained or be developed through marquetry, metalwork, pattern and bespoke finishes.
What connects the collection is a sense of balance: the warmth of walnut and ash, the quiet sheen of mother of pearl, and forms that feel fluid rather than imposed. The Wave Bench moves gently through a space, the bedside curves without interruption, while the cabinet can shift in function from storage to bar or display.
The result is furniture that can be interpreted differently from one commission to the next while retaining the same underlying form and character.

Kitsune Pattern & Marquetry
For the Canvas Collection, we wanted the Kitsune pattern to feel like part of the furniture rather than something simply applied to it. Different elements of the design can be picked out, enlarged, reduced or reworked in marquetry, metal and other materials so they follow the shape of each piece.
The walnut and ash keep the collection feeling calm, while the foxes, foliage and botanical details introduce movement and character. Because the pattern can be interpreted at different scales, each piece can feel quite different while still clearly belonging to the same collection.
Each piece is realised through our ongoing collaboration with a specialist workshop in Oman, combining precision joinery with marquetry and decorative techniques shaped by generations of craftsmanship.

Yevheniia Vynokurova
Developed in collaboration with Ukrainian artist Yevheniia Vynokurova, the Kitsune pattern began as a series of original illustrations before being reworked by Patience & Gough for use across furniture and marquetry. Elements of the artwork are adapted in-house to suit the scale, form and material of each piece, allowing the pattern to change without losing its original character.
